Carl-Johan Haster

Postdoc representative

Election statement

I have been a member of the LSC since 2012 when I joined the Compact Binary Coalescence Parameter Estimation group as a graduate student at the University of Birmingham, working mainly on benchmarking and optimising the LALInference pipeline as well as evaluating the accuracy with which different physical parameters can be estimated for CBC sources. I’m currently a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Canadian Institute for Theoretical Astrophysics.

As a LAAC Postdoc Representative I would work towards ensuring LSC members getting properly recognised for their work both publicly and within the collaboration, independent of the technical level of said work. I will also put a special focus on aiding junior LSC members in finding the right balance between the level of mentoring they receive and academic freedom required to maximise their current and future career opportunities. Additionally I will continue and expand the current programmes of LAAC tutorials and lectures, but put a stronger emphasis on the similarities and collaboration opportunities between the Instrumental and Data Analysis groups. There is amazing and ground-breaking research going on in the different sub-groups of the LSC and we should aim to learn more from developments made in other fields and make the most of the available opportunities for synergy.
